International Thespian Society Dubuque Senior High School is a proud member of the International Thespian Society, the world's largest honor society for theatre arts students. Since its inception, Dubuque Senior's chapter of the organization, Thespian Troupe #69, has recognized and promoted the work of outstanding students actively involved in the theatre program. How to Become a Thespian Thespian membership is based on demonstrating a commitment to theatre at Dubuque Senior. A student must receive 10 Thespian Points to be inducted into Thespian Troupe #69. Points are awarded based on the student completing a required amount of hours (approximately 100). These hours are determined by a student participating in productions, onstage or backstage. Hours are awarded for acting in a production, working on sets, joining the Improv Troupe, being an understudy, serving on stage crew, and/or almost any other activity associated with a production - large or small. At Dubuque Senior, points are given for work on all productions, whether it is a mainstage production or Story Theatre performance or speech contest or even Unscripted, our Improv Troupe. However, becoming a Thespian is based on more than just points. You must demonstrate, in the estimation of the Thespian Board, a work ethic, a commitment, and a positive attitude towards theatre and Thespian Troupe #69. Thespians are leaders within the department, fearlessly promoting the hard work and efforts of fellow Thespians. To be inducted, it is important that you reflect these values in all rehearsals, crew calls, and performances. When You Can Be Inducted New members are inducted into Thespian Troupe #69 at the end of the second semester of each year. Students receive a formal invitation to the induction ceremony at the beginning of May. After the induction ceremony, a student is officially considered a member of Thespian Troupe #69 - a lifetime membership. What is Required as a Thespian? All Thespians MUST attend our monthly meetings - typically held once a month on a Thursday from 2:30-3:00 PM. A schedule of meetings is distributed at the beginning of the school year. Beyond attending meetings, Thespians are expected to work on every production or performance, whether that participation is in the cast, crew, or front of house staff (ushering). You are expected to be a fearless promoter of theatre and the hard work and efforts of your fellow Thespians.
